ok, it has been leaked on the wires now, so I can tell part of the story, if you are all sitting comfortably Wink

There are indeed plans to establish a no fly zone within Libya, using US, UK and other NATO air assets. If this goes ahead tonight (and it looks likely) then the joint air taskforce WILL take down any Libyan aircraft that attempts to get airborne. This clears the way for phase 2. There is a phase 3 also once evacuations are done.

All Libya's air space closed down?

Hmmm...closed by whom, I wonder."

Yes, wondering ... wondering. Where is the nearest US aircraft carrier? The Libyan map posted by another here
indicates Gadaffi is/was using the Tripoli and Sabha airports as mercenary launching points. Closing the airspace and making Libya a "no fly" zone renders Gadaffi in a stall, unless he can get some outside help.

Wonder if he has outside help coming?

That doesn't surprise me. We'll see if any of the airforce are still loyal enough to Gaddafi to try and do anything about it.

This is very bad, because 99% of the libyan air force have defected to the people, and one and very possible scenario discussed is that they are planning to bomb Gaddafis bunker...this will hinder the people and not Gaddafi as all his air fleet have defected!!

The problem is that the western forces would have no way of knowing which planes were loyal to Gaddafi and which weren't, and you'd just have a massive clusterfuck, and potentially a lot of carnage.

I don't think you have to worry about that Muh. Allied planes will do it soon, so he cannot give anymore orders. Besides, they will have better planes and better bombs. The Libyan air force should just stay on the ground and drink iced tea. Or. here's an idea, the allied planes could escort them on their bombing runs and provide air protection.

I am not worried to be honest, the military gameplan is not to leave Gadaffi with any control anywhere
